Clubs Fair

U.T.S.U. recognizes almost 400 clubs on campus every year! The VP Campus Life and the Clubs Committee supports the initiatives of clubs on campus because clubs enhance student life and the student experience at UofT.

To support the clubs, the Students’ Union offers various resources and services:

  • Help with Constitutions and Event planning – We provide support to clubs in developing and revising internal bylaws and other constitutional documents, as well as event planning. This service is immensely useful for clubs that are restructuring or just starting up. If you are having a problem planning an event, or if you have no idea of where to start, contact us!

  • Membership Drives – U.T.S.U. hosts 3 membership drives every year to help promote and recruit for clubs: Orientation, winter Clubs Week, and at the annual cultural club showcase “Unity Through Diversity”.

  • Club Event Rentals – to help clubs offset the cost of some events, U.T.S.U. has various items for rent, such as BBQs, Coffee Urns, Tables and Chairs.

  • Club Promotion – on a campus this large, clubs require various methods of promotion for events. The Clubs Directory is distributed to over 6,000 first year students during Orientation, and it includes the clubs’ mandates and contact information. In addition, recognised groups can access the U.T.S.U. Campus Life e-bulletin and calendar of events.

  • Office Services – every U.T.S.U. recognised club is entitled to 1,000 free photocopies per year (September to May), as well as an additional 500 free photocopies during the summer session (May to September). Clubs are also able to use our phones for free local calls, as well as having a mailbox reserved for their use throughout the year.

The Students’ Union is one of the major sources of funding for campus groups. Campus groups may submit proposals for two types of funding: Long Term and Short Term. Long Term funding is a large sum of money that is allocated at the beginning of the year and is used to support events throughout the year. To be eligible for Long Term funding, U.T.S.U. recognised clubs MUST attend a Club Executive training session. These training sessions are typically held in August. Campus groups usually apply for Short Term funding if they execute only one event during the semester that requires funding. To apply for funding, download the forms from the U.T.S.U. website and submit them with a proposal within the deadlines. To find out more about U.T.S.U.’s policies on campus groups funding, contact Corey Scott, Vice-President Campus Life.

To access any of these services or resources, including funding, a campus group MUST be recognised by the Students’ Union. This means you must be approved first by UofT Student Life (www.ulife.utoronto.ca) and have at least 30 members with the majority (over 50%) being U.T.S.U. members. A U.T.S.U. member is any full-time undergraduate student at the St. George or Mississauga campus. To apply, simply fill out an application online at www.utsu.ca and email your group’s Constitution to clubs@utsu.ca.
